A Little Dried Corn Seller (photo story)

Srey Ry, 13 years old, is a dry corn seller for people to feed pigeon at the river front where is right in front of the royal palace. She started selling dried corn since she was 8 years old.

Right now she lives with her mother, grandfather and her siblings in a rented room near Psa Chas (Old Market.) Her parents got divorced since she was little. SreyRy said with a facial expression that “my father was an alcoholic and he often did domestic violence when he got drunk, so my mother decided to divorce him.” Her father was a construction worker who earn less than 5USD per day. Her mother is the pure water seller who mainly supports the whole family of 7. She has 2 elder brothers and 3 younger sisters. Her both 2 elder brothers are construction workers. Her 3 younger sisters are now studying and selling dry corn after class.

Wondering around, looking for customers and enjoy herself watching her fellow kids playing, she was apparently all alone while all her sisters went to school and her brothers worked at the construction place. She said that she wants to go to school too but she needs to earn money and she want to help her mother.

For 1000 riel for a package, she can earn 10,000 reils per morning and all the money she earned will go to her mother for family support. She said that she has no dream, all she want to do is sell the dry corn but sometime she was thinking of being a garment worker in the future because she thinks she can earn more money.
